Key findings from a series of studies on structured learning programmes in South Africa

Authors:

Stephen Taylor, Nompumelelo Mohohlwane, Bianca Böhmer and Anna Murru

The Early Grade Research Programmes (EGRS) series was launched by South Africa’s Department of Basic Education (DBE) in 2015 in response to the growing awareness of the need to develop contextually relevant evidence on how to improve reading in the country, given the core and strategic role that reading plays in early and later learning.

This report synthesises the findings from the implementation research of the EGRS interventions and is an update of a 2022 Synthesis Report on EGRS I and II.
