Zenex Foundation

Zenex Foundation is an independent education grant-maker established in 1995 to strengthen the public schooling system in South Africa. The Foundation’s entire budget is committed to the fields of language and mathematics education. This strategic focus is informed by evidence of a proven relationship between language proficiency and success in mathematics, as critical for overall learner achievement. To date, the Zenex Foundation has disbursed over R1,5 billion in the South African education sector, the impact of which is assesses through extensive research and evaluation.

The Zenex Foundation’s role in the What Works Hub for Global Education emanates from funding of the International Education Funders’ Group (IEFG). The Foundation supports the IEFG in their programmes to deepen understanding of the Global South and strengthen the representation and voice of philanthropies from this region in wider education spaces.
