The British Council supports peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide.
We uniquely combine the UK’s deep expertise in arts and culture, education and the English language, our global presence and relationships in over 100 countries, our unparalleled access to young people, creatives and educators, and our own creative sparkle.
We work with governments and our partners in the education, English language and cultural sectors, in the UK and globally. Working together we make a bigger difference, creating benefit for millions of people all over the world.
We work with people in over 200 countries and territories and are on the ground in more than 100 countries. In 2022–23 we reached 600 million people.
In its role as Strategic Partner to the What Works Hub for Global Educations the British Council will act as advisor, facilitator and convenor, enhancing the impact of the Hub through use of our education networks, contextual insight, local knowledge and convening expertise. We will bring together policy makers, evidence creators, donors, NGOs and other stakeholders in the research and education ecosystems. The British Council will do this in individual countries and across the international education ecosystem, to build dialogue around evidence-based decision-making to strengthen foundational learning outcomes.
Our aim is to ensure robust educational evidence is used to inform and shape policy change and ultimately implementation at scale and progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4. We will support governments and practitioners to access evidence in tailored ways to meet their decision-making needs, through a range of communications and events, and coordination between evidence creators and stakeholders in the wider education community.
