Joanne Newton is the British Council Country Convenor for the What Works Hub for Global Education in South Africa. The British Council plays a crucial role in the Hub, acting as a facilitator and convenor, bringing together stakeholders to support and strengthen the data, evidence, and research ecosystem in country.

Jo is an education and cultural relations specialist with over 25 years of experience in complex international contexts. As Senior Partnerships Adviser for the British Council in Sub-Saharan Africa, she excels at working collaboratively to develop and deliver high-quality education, enterprise & cultural programmes. Her qualifications include postgraduate diplomas in teaching, education management, and monitoring and evaluation, and she is currently undertaking a master’s degree in development and economics at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
