Amy Lightfoot

Strategic Partnership Board member

Amy is Academic Director for the British Council’s work in English and school education, leading their strategic partnership with the What Works Hub for Global Education. The British Council’s role in the Hub is as advisor, facilitator and convenor, bringing together stakeholders within and between the participating countries.

In her wider role, Amy leads on academic strategy development for the education programmes delivered by the British Council in over 50 countries. These focus on the themes of teaching quality, language in foundational learning, English in education, school leadership, girls’ education, life skills for young people, and crisis, displacement and migration.

Amy has been working in the education sector for over 20 years, with a particular focus on teacher development, language policy and edtech-enabled education in South Asia with a variety of published work exploring these areas. She holds an MA in Education and International Development from University College London and an MA in English Language Teaching from the University of Bath. After 12 years in India and Sri Lanka, she is now based in the UK.
