Sarah Melville

Research Manager

Sarah Melville is a Research Manager on the evidence translation and synthesis team at the What Works Hub for Global Education. Sarah plays a central coordination function for the Hub’s Evidence Translation pillar, supporting the Director of Evidence Translation in priority setting, development, and alignment of the Hub’s synthesis and evidence translation work. She hopes to build on her four years of research and work experience to conduct and synthesise research that furthers the effective implementation of foundational education policy and programming.

Previously, Sarah worked as a Senior Associate consultant for Genesis Analytics, where she worked in the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team. In this role, she managed several research projects, programme evaluations and evidence syntheses focusing on economic inclusion, youth employment and entrepreneurship, and education across South Africa, Namibia, Kenya and Zimbabwe. This included working on an endline evaluation of the Supporting Adolescent Girls in Education programme funded by FCDO’s Girls Education Challenge fund, where she conducted extensive quantitative data analysis of learning assessment data to determine the programme’s effectiveness.

Sarah holds a master’s degree in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation from the University of Oxford, completed with distinction, where her research focused on analysing four large randomised controlled trials of playful parenting programmes to further an understanding of for whom parenting programmes are most effective. Prior to this, she completed a Bachelor of Social Science in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and an honours degree in Economics from the University of Cape Town. She also holds certification for the MITx MicroMasters Program in Data, Economics and Development Policy.
