Mr Lawrence John Sanga is a seasoned education policy specialist and public servant with nearly three decades of experience in Tanzania’s education sector. He has eight years of experience teaching in secondary schools and over 18 years serving at ministerial level. He worked for seven years in the Department of Secondary Education, addressing management, quality, and equity issues in secondary education, and has spent more than 11 years in the Department of Policy and Planning.

Mr. Sanga holds a Master of Arts in Education from St. John’s University of Tanzania, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam. His multidisciplinary background enhances education management by enabling him to integrate analytical engineering approaches, pedagogical expertise, and public policy perspectives in designing, implementing, and evaluating effective education reforms and systems.

He currently serves as Principal Education Officer in the Department of Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Tanzania. In this role, he is responsible for developing and reviewing education policies, plans, strategies, and guidelines across different levels of education. He also coordinates research and innovation initiatives while advancing evidence-informed policy, institutional coordination, and sustainable reforms to strengthen inclusive and quality learning outcomes in Tanzania.
