Information hub for the Community of Practice workshop
Welcome to Oxford for the What Works Hub for Global Education Community of Practice workshop! The workshop is a side event to the Hub’s annual conference. The event hub will be located at the Blavatnik School of Government , University of Oxford, Walton Street, Oxford, OX2 6GG.

In-person participation
Getting here
Oxford is approximately 60 miles (90 km) northwest of London and has excellent road and national rail links. There are regular coach services and direct train services to major UK cities including London and Birmingham.
Arriving via air – Bus to Oxford
If arriving at London Heathrow or London Gatwick Airports, the Airline bus is the best way to get to central Oxford. Flexible return tickets can be booked in advance and the buses run frequently. If you are heading straight to the event venue upon arrival, the Blavatnik School is within walking distance of the central bus station.
Arriving via rail
If arriving by rail from central London, the nearest train station is Central Oxford Station. Taxis are available outside of the Central Oxford Station but please note that central Oxford can be congested and walking is often a quicker option. If you are heading straight to the event venue from the Central Oxford Station, the Blavatnik School is a short walk away.
Arriving via car
Many streets in central Oxford are closed to traffic and parking is severely limited. If you are arriving by car, please, be aware that the Blavatnik School cannot offer parking. Guests of the college are advised to use the Park and Ride car parks on the outskirts of the city. Day visitors are also encouraged to use the Park & Ride car parks & bus services which operate between the city centre and parking areas on the outskirts of the city. Accommodation
If you plan to stay in Oxford, we strongly advise you to book your accommodation as early as possible, as September is a peak season of events and conferences. You can sample Oxford life by staying in one of the colleges, or there are plenty of hotels and bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) in the city centre.
Refreshment and catering
During the event, we will be offering a mid-afternoon drink, followed by a toast and mingle session at the end of the day. Your special dietary requirements, such as halal or vegetarian options, will be considered in the menu.

What does “hybrid” mean in relation to the What Works Hub for Global Education Community of Practice workshop?
The What Works Hub for Global Education Community of Practice workshop will be held in a hybrid format, combining a live in-person event with a virtual online component. Hosted at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, the workshop will use advanced hybrid learning technology, including AI software that tracks speakers and offers multi-camera views, ensuring a rich and enjoyable experience for those attending online.
How much does it cost to register for the Community of Practice workshop?
The event is free to attend.
Can I still register to attend the Community of Practice workshop in person?
Unfortunately, registration for in-person attendance at the Community of Practice workshop has already closed. If you are not allocated a space in the event, you can still join us online via Zoom or watch the event via the YouTube livestreams which are available now on this event page.
My application to attend the conference and the workshop was successful, can I get financial support to cover my travel and accommodation costs?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide financial support for your trip.
My application to attend the conference and the workshop was successful, can What Works Hub for Global Education support my visa application?
Yes, it is possible. You may need a visa to enter the UK, depending on your passport type and country of residence. Please check here to see if you require a visa to enter the UK.
Please email events.wwhge@bsg.ox.ac.uk if you need a visa support letter to apply for entry into the UK.
I plan to extend my stay in the UK to go sightseeing or attend another event. Can you include these days in my visa support letter?
No. Please note that according to the University’s policy, the visa support letter can only cover one day before and one day after the event for travel. For example, if you plan to attend the conference and the workshop in Oxford between 24 and 26 Sep, the visa support letter will only cover the period from 23 to 27 September.
