Ehtasham Anwar

Secretary of School Education, Punjab, Pakistan

Ehtasham Anwar is the Secretary of School Education in Punjab, Pakistan. He is also a medical graduate, a civil servant, a barrister-at-law, and a Hubert Humphrey Fellow for Law and Human Rights at the University of Minnesota, US. Ehtasham has an LLB and a Master’s in History. Amongst his other achievements, his team is credited with launching formal education for marginalised communities, such as transgender people and juvenile prisoners.  He also had the honour of being the founding director of one of the largest conditional cash transfer projects, Waseela-e-Taleem, in education worldwide, whereby 4.23 million children have been brought to school. He also introduced climate change as a separate subject at school—a project that was unprecedented not only in the country but even beyond.
